HISTORY

Once a Cruiser Sailor Always a Cruiser Sailor.

On 11 April 1992, seven World War II, Korean and Vietnam War cruiser sailors met at the Fleet Reserve Hall at Davisville, Rhode Island. The meeting was held to discuss the possibility of forming an association of cruiser sailors. On 18 June 1992, the United States Navy Cruiser Sailors Association was officially incorporated. From our first annual meeting in Hyannis, Massachusetts, we have grown to an organization of over 4,000 Sailors, Marines and Associate active members.

Now, in our 15th year, we can point with pride to our members who represent virtually all light, heavy, nuclear and guided missile cruisers that served in the Fleet. Today's Navy is represented by members serving aboard the Fleet's Ticonderoga class of Aegis cruisers. Our membership rolls contain Vice-Admirals as well as Seaman. Shipmates come from all fifty states and seven foreign countries.  In 1995, our Association took on an International scope with the recruiting of our first members that served aboard cruisers of the Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand Navies.

Membership is open to all ship's company, Marine Detachment, aviation division, flag personnel, Midshipmen and widows of deceased members that served aboard cruisers. Associate memberships are available for past and present Navy men and women, reservists, widows of cruiser Sailors and Marines, Allied Navy veterans and interested individuals.

Our future promises continued and steady growth because thousands of dedicated members have supported, and continue to actively support, the goals and purpose of the United States Navy Cruiser Sailors Association.
